Here’s a comparison between the first model and Model B: Given the VEC CJ-2A and the lack of a model identifier, I believe these two images show “Model A”, or the first model:Īs indicated on the second page below, these brochures appear to feature “Model B”: Several of these have been for sale over the years, with and without jeeps. It was available from at least 1948 through 1957. The last item, the snow plow, is what I believe to be the most common item manufactured by Scheneker. Glenn shared one with us that was being rebuilt during our 2013 trip to Maine. There are a few of these Scheneker backhoes around. I believe this is a Sheneker All Purpose Loader ( see more pics here):
This was posted as part of an article on loaders from. One early item produced by Schenker in the late 1940s was the “Jeep” Dozerette, a scraper.Īnother odd item that I don’t remember ever seeing in the wild is this Scheneker all-purpose lift:Īnother item which didn’t sell all too well was this Sheneker loader (none of the various loaders sold all that well). So, if anyone has any more background information on Schenker, please let me know! Other than that, I could uncover very little about this company. The first items appear in the Willys-Overland Special Equipment Book starting in the late 1940s and the last evidence of their association with the jeep was in 1957. The Scheneker Iron Works company of Buffalo, New York, produced some interesting pieces of specialized equipment for the jeep. I’m not certain whether it’s the same jeep or not.
This shows the same(?) Demonstration jeep with a lift bucket. NEW UPDATE: Here are some more pics of the Scheneker Iron Works Demonstration Jeep that I snagged on eBay. Email or call 81″ To Top Year? No bed but complete and it needs a total restoration. Rare factory 4 speed T98 DRW truck: This was the truck I was going to use for the backhoe. This isn’t a parts unit used for my other one. A backhoe is one of the rarest configurations for an FC. I was going to put it on a DRW but found an original complete FC with factory backhoe so no need for this one. This is the correct backhoe for a FC 170 DRW ( here’s more about the DRW). I have 22 FC’s right now and need to let loose this one for space. I thought I’d let FC guys know about it before listing it on the evil Ebay. “ FC 170 Backhoe Ottawa model LX: I just have too much and need room for my restored backhoe coming in. This is totally different from the Ottawa on the FC170 later in the 50’s, and also different from the half cab FC170 shown in the current AACA Club Magazine “Antique Automobile” There are many special parts on this vehicle including heavy duty split rim 15″ wheels and a banjo type rear end housing.”Ĭontinue reading → To Top 1968 CJ-5 Backhoe Dually Biddeford, ME **SOLD**ĭan asked me to post a rare backhoe and a DRW 170 for him. Somewhere there must be another of these in order for owners to compare notes. Frame reinforcements were everywhere and we are trying to find any information as to what was done at the Buffalo Factory. Complete replacement of the frame is the only answer and a California pickup is here. Probably not many were built as it was not strong enough to take the beating.Īs this is being dismantled, it is obvious that much rewelding was required after each use. We would like to communicate with anyone knowledgeable about these. We have been playing with this unit for several years and have never seen another. It looks just like the one in the Willys Special Equipment Catalog. You can either comment or contact me if you want to email me writes, “A local friend is working on a ’55 Willys Pickup with a Schnecker Iron Works BackHoe mounted on back. Due to the lack of information about these, he wondered if anyone out there in Willysland had any additional information about them. Glenn has a friend working on a restoration of a Scheneker Backhoe.
